Blue Heelers and drovers.
Drovers needed a dog and the best mate was the Aussie Cattle Dog.
According to the site, Greencross Vets the Australian Cattle Dog, including blue heelers, was developed in Australia during the 19th Century as a working or drover’s dog.
The breed was developed to produce a dog with immense stamina, resilience and tenacity, which could deal with untamed cattle, rugged terrain and vast distances.

Blue Heelers and their traits.
You see that these dogs were what you call biddable, which means that they are easily trained), but the dogs had to make quick decisions on their own, particularly with dangerous mobs of feral cattle.
Blue heelers protected the drover’s horse and belongings, I saw that when I bought a mob of 700 breeders walking along a stock route near Warren NSW.
The drover was an interesting chap and he reckoned his dog had done the job better than any other. He verified the fact that the blue heeler would protect his boss, the drover.
The website says, “Years of breeding to suit droving needs has produced a dog with superb ability, as well as a general purpose dog of excellence.”
The Blue Heeler is a Cattle Dog. So is the ‘Red Heeler.’
This is a name based on the colouring of the dog and the practice of the heeler, which goes about nipping at the heels of reluctant cattle.
